NSX Type S. Goodbye to Honda NSX with special and limited series

Anonim

Started in 2016, the story of the second generation of Honda NSX (Acura in the US) already has a scheduled end date: December 2022. Now, in order for its super sports car to say goodbye “in a big way”, Honda will unveil the limited series NSX Type S, to be revealed on the next day August 12th, at the Monterey Car Week event.

Limited to just 350 units (300 for the US, 30 for Japan and 20 for the rest of the world), the Honda NSX Type S “follows in the footsteps” of the limited versions of the first generation NSX, including the NSX Zanardi Edition (51 units), NSX-R (483 units), NSX Type S (209 units) and NSX Type S-Zero (30 units).

Interestingly, this will be the first time that the NSX Type S will be marketed outside of Japan. For now we have not been able to see it completely, however Honda has revealed a series of teasers where it allows to preview some of the details of the version that represents the “corner of the swan” of the hybrid super sports car.

what we already know

Scheduled for debut on August 12, the new Honda NSX Type S will offer, according to the Japanese brand, "more power, faster acceleration, more precise dynamics and a more exciting driving experience".

For now, all we know is that the Honda NSX Type S, or Acura NSX Type S (as they are sold in the US, where they are also produced), will feature an improved version of the 3.5 V6 twin-turbo and the Sport Hybrid SH system -AWD, it's still not known how this will translate into the supercar numbers.

As an element of comparison, the "normal" NSX draw from their hybrid set 581 hp of maximum combined power, with the 3.5 l twin-turbo V6 delivering 507 hp and being aided by two electric motors (one coupled to the engine and the other located on the shaft front, ensuring four-wheel drive).

In the aesthetics chapter, the teasers revealed so far suggest the adoption of some specific logos, five-spoke wheels, red brake calipers, carbon fiber elements, a larger diffuser and, of course, a plate identifying the number of each of the 350 units.

In total, 2500 units of this generation of Honda NSX have already been produced, a modest value for a model around which enormous anticipation has been created (also motivated by the numerous prototypes that have been anticipating it for nearly 10 years). Now, these 350 NSX Type S units mark Honda's most likely farewell to supersports.
