Volvo will no longer use leather in its 100% electric cars

After announcing that by 2030 all new models will be 100% electric, Volvo has just declared that it will eliminate leather materials from all its cars.

From now on, all new 100% electric models from the Swedish brand will not have any leather components. And moving Volvo towards an all-electric range by 2030 means that all Volvos in the future will be 100% fur free.

By 2025, the Swedish manufacturer has committed that 25% of the materials used in its new models will be made from a biological or recycled base.

The C40 Recharge, which is already on sale in our country, will be the brand's first vehicle not to use leather, presenting itself with textile coatings from recycled materials (such as PET, used in soft drink bottles, for example). by materials of biological origin, originating from forests in Sweden and Finland and by recycled stoppers from the wine industry.

Volvo Cars will continue to offer wool blend options, but only from suppliers that are certified as responsible, as “the company will track the origin and animal welfare associated with this entire supply chain”.

Volvo guarantees that it will also “require the reduction of the use of waste products from livestock production that are often used in plastics, rubbers, lubricants or adhesives, either as part of the material or as a chemical in the production process or treatment of materials”.

“Being a progressive car brand means we need to address all areas involved in sustainability, not just CO2 emissions. Responsible sourcing is a very important part of this work, which includes respect for animal welfare. Stopping the use of leather in our 100% electric cars is an important step towards solving this problem. Finding products and materials that support animal welfare is certainly a challenge, but it won't be a reason to give up on doing so. This is a worthwhile cause.
