Recently, the Swedish brand announced the goal of becoming 100% electric from 2030 and on this path to total electrification, Volvo has just added the new to its electrified offer. XC40 T4 Recharge.
The XC40 T4 Recharge is a plug-in hybrid ("plug-in" hybrid) that, according to Volvo, brings with it "all the advantages of the XC40 T5 Recharge (also plug-in hybrid), but at a higher price attractive".
The Swedish SUV range thus gains another electrified proposal that joins the semi-hybrids (mild-hybrid), the existing plug-in hybrid (T5 Recharge) and the latest 100% electric that we've already had the opportunity to test — see the video.
50 hp "distance"
Faced with a T5 Recharge, this variant loses some numbers, namely in terms of heat engine power, with a difference of 50 horsepower between them.
Both versions run on the same petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 179 hp in the T5 but only 129 hp in the T4. Combining it with the 82 hp electric motor (identical on both versions), the combined power is 261 hp in the T5 Recharge and 211 hp in the T4 Recharge.
Also common to both is the battery pack, with 10.7 kWh (8.5 kWh of useful capacity), allowing this Swedish model an announced autonomy between 51 and 55 km on city routes in 100% electric mode (46 km in combined cycle), and with combined consumptions announced between 2.1 and 2.5 l/100 km.
Battery management and driving style can be changed via three driving modes: “PURE” (100% electric), “HYBRID” (optimized management of the two engines) and “POWER” (both engines work simultaneously for the best performance).
How much does it cost?
The equipment levels of the XC40 T4 Recharge remain the same as we already know from other XC40: Inscription Expression, Inscription and R-Design.
For individuals, the new Volvo XC40 T4 Recharge will start from 34,499 euros (+VAT). For companies, the Swedish model will have a renting cost of 525 euros (+VAT) in 48 months or 80 000 km.
