New Hyundai Tucson has already arrived in Portugal. How much does it cost?

The new Hyundai Tucson “lands” in the national market and is one of 14 new releases announced by the South Korean brand just for this year(!) — they are definitely with their hands full...

The initial impact of the fourth generation of the model is great, largely due to the design, with a very expressive style and anticipated by the Vision T concept in 2019, which cuts abruptly with its predecessor.

It is the face of the new Tucson that captures all the attention, due to its parametric grille that includes a distinct luminous signature, in addition to the turn signals, with the low beam (also in LED) placed in niches flanking the generous grille. Also on the back we have a unique LED luminous signature that integrates a luminous strip across the entire width of the model.

Visual animation is also not lacking in the body of the new Tucson, with well-defined volumes around the mudguards, expressively creased at their tops, which result in a side characterized by broken surfaces or overlapping volumes. Whether you like the new generation or not, it certainly won't leave anyone indifferent and it shouldn't be easily confused with the competition either.

Inside, the revolution is also big in terms of design and content. The instrument panel is now 100% digital, consisting of a 10.25″ “floating” screen, and complemented by an infotainment system accessible via a 10.25″ touchscreen or a Display

8” audio (depends on version).

Not leaving the cabin, the slight increase in the external dimensions of the Hyundai Tucson was reflected in the internal dimensions that exceed those of its predecessor, both those related to passengers and those related to the trunk.

Engines

The new Hyundai Tucson arrives in Portugal in the first phase with three engines: gasoline, diesel and hybrid.

The range starts with a gasoline engine 1.6 l four-cylinder turbo with 150 hp, 48 V mild-hybrid system and an intelligent six-speed manual transmission (6iMT). Next we have a diesel engine , also with four cylinders and 1.6 l of capacity with 136 hp, also mild-hybrid at 48 V, but mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT).

The big news of this fourth generation Tucson is its hybrid engine, simply called hybrid . It is a “conventional” hybrid or Full Hybrid (that is, you can't plug it in to charge the battery) and it combines a 180hp 1.6 T-GDi gasoline engine with a 60hp electric motor, ensuring a maximum combined power of 230 hp (and 350 Nm of torque). The transmission is made only to the front wheels, via a six-speed automatic (torque converter) (6AT).

The battery has a capacity of 1.49 kWh and is charged via deceleration and regenerative braking. The electric range was not announced, but as it usually happens in this type of hybrid — for example, the Toyota RAV4 or the Honda CR-V —, with such a small battery, it should not exceed 2-3 km. However, it is possible to drive only using the electric motor, but it is the system that automatically determines when there are conditions for this to happen — accessible up to speeds of 120 km/h.

Later, at the end of the first quarter of the year, a plug-in hybrid version (PHEV) will arrive, even more powerful, with 265 hp, and this one, allowing an electric autonomy of around 50 km. Still in 2021 we will also meet the Tucson N, the sportier version of the SUV, but no details on its specifications have yet been advanced.

Equipment

There are two levels of equipment available: Premium and Vanguard. even at the level Premium , the list of standard equipment is vast: LED headlamps, 18″ wheels, Smart Sense safety package, 8″ Display Audio, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rain sensor and tinted rear windows.

THE vanguard adds leather upholstery, LED ambient lighting, Krell sound system, induction smartphone charging, electrically-opening tailgate with the possibility to configure how high it goes up.

During the first half of the year, the Premium and Vanguard levels will also be accompanied by an N Line level — which the brand has already “looked out” — which bets on a sportier image.
