The Peugeot 405 was the first model designed by the Italian atelier Pininfarina to win the Car of the Year Trophy in Portugal.

Of the various versions he has seen, the sportier ones stand out, such as the STI Le Mans and the Mi16, both at the level of the best sports saloons. In addition to these, there was even a lack of versions with more than 400 hp of power destined for the Dakar, such as the Peugeot 405 T16 Rally Raid and the Peugeot 405 T16 Grand Raid.
With a refined aerodynamics, the elegant sedan with straight lines was one of the highlights of the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show. Production began in the same year, in France and England.
The platform was the same as the Citroën BX and had enough attributes to face competitors such as the Renault 21, also winner of the car of the year in 1987, in addition to the Alfa Romeo 75 and Volkswagen Passat.
A year before being car of the year in Portugal, the Peugeot 405 was voted car of the year in Europe.
The Mi16 version had a 1.9 liter block with 16 valves and 160 hp of power, and in addition to reaching 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, it reached a top speed of 220 km/h.
Even more powerful, at the top of the lion brand's food chain, was the T16 version with a 2.0 turbo block and 200 hp. It had an overboost function, where the turbo pressure rose from 1.1 bar to 1.3 bar for 45 seconds, which increased power up to 10%.
Produced between 1987 and 1997, in various versions including a van and four-wheel drive versions, more than 2.5 million units were sold.
