Skoda Octavia Break (2021). Will it be one of the best proposals in the segment?

It may even go unnoticed due to its more discreet appearance, but the success of the Škoda Octavia Break it is indisputable. It is the sales leader among all vans in the European market.

The fourth generation, launched in 2020, brought with it increasing levels of refinement and comfort and continues to be the largest luggage compartment in the segment. In the new generation, an additional 30 l in capacity is announced, making 640 l.

The leap between its predecessor and the new Škoda Octavia Combi is palpable enough to ask ourselves: is this one of the best proposals in the segment? This is what you can see in the video below, where Diogo Teixeira takes us to discover the exterior and interior of the new Octavia Break, explore its handling and behavior and understand where the new Czech proposal is positioned in the hierarchy of the segment.

Škoda Octavia Combi 2.0 TDI

We tested the Octavia Combi equipped with the 150 hp 2.0 TDI associated with the seven-speed DSG gearbox, a combination, says Diogo, which is one of the best you can buy in the range. Not only does it guarantee a good level of performance — less than nine seconds up to 100 km/h — but also moderate consumption, with the unit under test consuming, without major difficulties, five liters per 100 km travelled.

As we saw in other models based on the MQB Evo, the technological leap in the fourth generation of the Octavia is remarkable, with digitalization gaining prominence in the interior. Even though, at times, this digitization makes it difficult to operate certain functions, such as climate control, which is now integrated only in the touchscreen of the infotainment system. On the other hand, the Virtual Cockpit not only allows access to a lot of information, but also makes it easy and readable.

Positive note also for the rest of the interior, with a sober but pleasant design and a very solid assembly. The materials are varied, ranging from softer and more pleasant to the touch in the upper areas, to harder and less pleasant plastics in the lower areas of the cabin, passing through various areas covered in fabric or leather, such as the steering wheel.

The version tested is the Style, the highest level, coming very well equipped from the outset. However, our unit also added several options such as an always practical head-up display, a panoramic roof or the Sport Dynamic Pack. The latter to include sports seats (with integrated headrests), which even seem to clash a little in the sober environment that characterizes this version.

How much does it cost?

The Škoda Octavia Combi 2.0 TDI DSG Style starts at 36 655 euros, with our unit's options pushing the price to close to 41 thousand euros.
