Record. Porsche 911 GT2 RS destroys AMG GT Black Series time at Nürburgring

Anonim

Porsche has once again surprised everyone and everything, breaking the Nürburgring record for production cars with a 911 GT2 RS equipped with the Manthey Performance Kit.

This GT2 RS, with Lars Kern at the wheel, covered the 20.83 kilometers of the German track in 6min43.30s, beating for more than 4s the 6min48.047s mark that belonged to the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series and the driver Maro Engel.

Developed by Manthey Racing, which races the 911 RSR in the endurance world, this special kit was developed under the watchful eye of Porsche and is part of the official accessories catalog of the Stuttgart brand model.

Therefore, and since Manthey Racing products are classified as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) accessories, Porsches modified with these elements continue to be classified as production models.

What changes?

The 911 GT2 RS MR, as it's known, takes the already impressive 911 GT2 to new heights with a track-optimized suspension scheme and a new set of brakes.

In addition to all this, it has an aerodynamic kit that adds additional struts to the front diffuser, a modified rear air diffuser, a redesigned rear wing and aerodynamic discs for the 21” magnesium rear wheels.

Thanks to these modifications, the 911 GT2 RS MR — at a speed of 200 km/h — is capable of generating 21 kg of additional load on the front axle and another 107 kg of downforce at the rear.

The 911 GT2 RS sticks to the track like glue with Manthey's performance kit - we feel like we're in a racing car, especially in the fastest corners.

Despite all the modifications it underwent, it is important to remember that this Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR maintains the 3.8 l flat-six twin-turbo engine with 700 hp that equips the standard 911 GT2 RS.

Better than one is… two records!

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR was once again the “king” of the Nürburgring as far as production cars were concerned and did so peremptorily, as it not only registered the fastest mark on The Ring's new circuit, with 20.82 km , as well as on the old circuit, with “only” 20.6 km.

The marks achieved were 6min43.30s and 6min38.84s, respectively, which have since been validated by the official authorities of the German circuit.

The absolute record holder on the German track is still the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo in competition with a time of 5min19.55s.
