SEAT with first mega-truck for car transport

Together with SETRAM, SEAT S.A. has just launched the first mega-truck for transporting vehicles in Spain, respecting the most recent authorized Euro-Modular configuration, which configuration sets the dimensions and maximum weights authorized for vehicles in circulation.

Until then, the Spanish manufacturer used this type of truck solely and exclusively to transport parts — as we reported in early 2020 — but, from now on, it will also transport its vehicles produced at the Martorell factory to Porto of Barcelona.

In this way, SEAT S.A. will reduce the number of trips and improve their economic and environmental impacts.

SEAT mega truck

Compared to the trucks previously used, this new mega-truck is 4.75 m longer, going from 20.55 m to 25.25 m. As a result, it now has more space for car transport, being able to transport between 10 and 11 cars (depending on the model mix) compared to the eight to nine cars for the traditional “road train”.

Given this increase in vehicles transported daily, it is possible to predict that, compared to a traditional four-axle truck, daily productivity will increase by 12%, while reducing CO2 emissions by up to 10% per trip (5.2 tons per year) and reduce logistics costs by 11% (500 routes per year).

“The mega-truck eliminates 500 truck circulations per year on the city's ring roads and reduces 5.2 tons of CO2 emissions per year, which brings enormous advantages in terms of sustainability, environment, road safety and efficiency. With the mega-truck and rail transport, our main logistical route to the Port of Barcelona, we are making steady progress towards a maximum reduction in the carbon footprint of vehicle transport”.
