BMW M4 Coupé and BMW M4 GT3 unveiled. So-so

Anonim

For the first time BMW M unveiled side by side, albeit in the form of camouflaged prototypes, the road and competition version of one of its most significant models, the BMW M4 Coupe or BMW M4 GT3 in the circuit version.

The presentation took place in the duly named “BMW M Grand Prix of Styria”, the Moto GP race that takes place during this weekend (20-23 August 2020), at the Austrian Red Bull Ring circuit.

If we already knew, as far as possible, what to expect from the BMW M4 Coupé on the road, the BMW M4 GT3, announced some time ago, is still a novelty: it will take the place of the (large) BMW M6 GT3, which took over in 2016.

BMW M4 and M4 GT3

I am very pleased that we can present both the new BMW M4 Coupé and the new BMW M4 GT3 together here.(…) The BMW M4 Coupé and its racing counterpart BMW M4 GT3 are the icons of the BMW M GmbH and the primary examples of the transfer from competition to series production — and vice versa. From the beginning, both vehicles were developed, so they both have the same genes.

Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW M GmbH

In common they will have the same six cylinders in line supercharged with M TwinPower Turbo technology, although they are obviously different from each other for having different objectives and different rules to respect.

BMW M4 Coupe

The BMW M4 Coupé, as well as the new M3 sedan, will be available, right from the start, in two versions, as already announced. Starting the "hostilities" we will have a version with 480 hp and six-speed manual transmission, and above that, a Competition version with 510 hp and eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission.

What about the BMW M4 GT3? There are no known specifications, but its debut is scheduled to take place as early as 2021, where it will participate in some races. However, it is not until 2022 that it will definitively replace the M6 GT3 as the top of the range of the BMW M in private competition cars.
