This is the Suzuki Swace and the fact that it looks like a Toyota Corolla is no coincidence.

After revealing the Across, its interpretation of the RAV4, a few months ago, Suzuki revealed the second fruit of its partnership with Toyota, the Suzuki Swace.

While the Across is Suzuki's version of the world's best-selling SUV, the Swace is based on what is “only” the world's best-selling car: the Toyota Corolla.

Like the Across, the Suzuki Swace also doesn't hide its origins much, being the similarities with its “cousin”, the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports, more than evident.

Viewed from the rear, the Swace is practically the same as the Corolla.

In this way, with the exception of the front section, which even has a specific grille, the side, rear and even the interior are identical to those of the Corolla, changing only the logos and… the steering wheel.

As far as mechanics are concerned, the Suzuki Swace will only have a hybrid engine that “marries” a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 98 hp and 142 Nm to an electric motor with 53 kW (72 hp) and a maximum torque of 163 Nm powered by a 3.6 kWh battery.

Although Suzuki does not reveal what will be the combined power of this engine, taking into account that in the identical Corolla this rises to 122 hp, we believe that in this case the value will be identical. Finally, the transmission will be in charge of a CVT box.

With the exception of the steering wheel, the interior is identical to the Toyota model.

Like the Corolla, the Suzuki Swace is able to ride (short time) in 100% electric mode and announces CO2 emissions between 99 and 115 g/km (WLTP). In terms of performance, the Swace reaches 100 km/h in 11.1s and reaches 180 km/h of maximum speed.

When does it arrive and how much will it cost?

With the start of sales in the European market scheduled for this winter, it is not yet known when the new Suzuki C-segment will arrive in Portugal or how much it will cost.

Already guaranteed, it seems to be the fact that it will only be available in the minivan format, with no plans to create a Suzuki version of the Corolla hatchback and sedan.

The trunk offers a generous 596 liters of capacity.

Finally, if you are wondering about the reasons behind the launch of the Swace (and the Across), the most likely is that in addition to these allowing to fill two gaps in the Suzuki range, they also allow to reduce the average emissions of the fleet of models sold by Suzuki in Europe, thus helping it to meet its emissions targets.
