GLB 35 4MATIC. The only 7-seat HOT SUV in the segment

AMG's 35 family also expands to SUVs. After the A-Class — five-door and Limousine — and the CLA — Coupé and Shooting Brake — the two-liter turbocharged tetra-cylindrical, with 306 hp, also arrives at the new GLB, giving rise to… take a deep breath… Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC.

The recipe is no different from its MFA II-born siblings. The new garments give a more aggressive look to the cubic (but smooth) volumes of the GLB, highlighting the more imposing front, featuring a specific AMG grille, larger entrances and a splitter.

At the rear, the two circular exhaust outlets and the specific rear spoiler, while in profile, are highlighted by the specific 19″ wheels — they can grow to 21″ — and the silver-tone brake calipers, marking it.

There is still room for some equipment packages that allow you to further customize the exterior, with distinct finishes, such as gloss black for the aerodynamic elements.

The interior does not escape the sporty accent, with new upholstery for the sports seats in Artico and Dinamica microfiber, with double stitching in red. The multifunction steering wheel also gains a sportier appearance.

Mechanically? Business as usual…

That is, nothing new, at least as far as the engine is concerned. The numbers of this Hot SUV coincide with those we've seen in the remaining 35. That's how the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC offers 306 hp available between 5800 rpm and 6100 rpm and 400 Nm achieved between 3000 rpm and 4000 rpm.

The novelty is the choice of transmission, which gains a ratio in relation to the other 35. The double-clutch gearbox (AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8G) now has eight gears. Together with 4MATIC four-wheel drive (50:50), the GLB 35 accelerates to 100 km/h in just 5.2s and reaches 250 km/h of maximum (limited) speed.

Not bad considering it's the biggest and heaviest member of the Mercedes compact family of models, and like all other GLBs, the GLB 35 by AMG retains the seven-seat option, a unique feature in the segment and rare to be found in models with the Affalterbach seal — only the giant GLS 63 occurs to us.

Optimized chassis

Dynamically, the suspension has been given new crossarms and a new steering gear gasket at the front, while at the rear there is a new sub-frame and specific wheel hubs at the rear. Optionally, we can opt for an adaptive suspension AMG RIDE CONTROL, which allows several configurations, changeable by selecting one of the Comfort, Sport and Sport+ programs.

The steering is also speed sensitive, meaning it has a variable ratio, reducing the level of assistance at higher speeds and increasing at lower speeds.

Finally, the braking system is composed of ventilated and perforated cast iron discs. At the front they are 350 mm in diameter by 34 mm thick, bitten by four-piston fixed brake calipers, while at the rear they are 330 mm x 22 mm, with a floating one-piston brake caliper.
