The everyday car? A Honda NSX with over 640 000 km

After a few days ago we showed you a Honda CRX that has barely walked since it left the stand, today we bring one Honda NSX (more precisely an Acura NSX) which is an authentic “kilometer eater”.

Bought by Sean Dirks 17 years ago when it had 70,000 miles (approximately 113,000 kilometers), this 1992 NSX has since become the everyday car of its devoted owner and for that reason has accumulated kilometers almost as if of a taxi if it were.

In total, 400,000 miles have already been covered (close to 644,000 kilometers) of which 330,000 miles (531 thousand kilometers) were covered with Sean at the wheel.

an exemplary behavior

According to Sean reveals, this NSX was his only car since he bought it and not only has he used it daily but has used it on several roadtrips, contrary to the idea that a supercar like the Honda NSX is not suitable for longer trips.

Proving that the myths about the reliability of Japanese models are justified, Sean Dirks' Acura NSX suffered only one failure over these 17 years: a gearbox retainer that did not withstand intensive use when the NSX was 123,000 miles ( 197 thousand kilometers).

The solution was to completely rebuild the gearbox, taking the opportunity to “offer” you the final ratio used by the NSX-R and a shorter stroke, all to allow for better acceleration and faster gear changes.

After more than 611,000 kilometers, the suspension also showed “some fatigue” and was completely rebuilt according to the original specifications, but it never caused any problems.

Like the V6 VTEC with 3.0 l and 274 hp at 7100 rpm that was never opened and does the revisions “religiously” every 15,000 miles (about 25,000 kilometers) as the manual “commands”.

In excellent condition despite the high mileage, this NSX has only two transformations: a performance exhaust and new wheels, everything else is standard.

When asked about the possibility of selling his Acura NSX at a time when the Japanese super sports car is increasingly valued, Sean Dirks is perennial: he never thought of selling the car, not even for a second.

The next goal? Reach 500,000 miles, the equivalent of nearly 805,000 kilometers.
