Volkswagen electric GTI will not be called GTI

Anonim

While Peugeot continues to look for the best designation for its electrified sports cars (what we know is that they shouldn't be GTI), Volkswagen already knows how it will designate future sports versions of its electric models: GTX.

After the abbreviations GTI (used in gasoline models), GTD (intended for the “spicy” versions with Diesel engine) and GTE (referring to plug-in hybrid models), a new acronym arrives in the range of the German brand.

The news was advanced by British Autocar, which adds that the “X” present in the acronym could mean that the sportier electric Volkswagens will have all-wheel drive.

Volkswagen ID.3
The sportier version of the ID.3 should receive the acronym GTX.

Sporty in performance and style

As with the GTI, GTD and GTE, electric Volkswagens bearing the acronym GTX will receive specific aesthetic details and, of course, should also have more power.

Although it is not known when the first Volkswagen to use the acronym GTX will reach the market, Autocar advances that this should be a crossover derived from the ID prototype. Crozz (whose official name could turn out to be ID.4).

Interestingly, the acronym GTX already has some history at Volkswagen, having been used to designate a version of the Jetta in some markets. At the same time, this acronym was also used to designate a model of the North American Plymouth.

Plymouth GTX
The GTX designation was used for a few years by Plymouth — a little different from the electric GTX we're going to have from Volkswagen.
