CLA Shooting Brake also welcomes today's most diabolical four cylinders

Barely two weeks have passed since the unveiling of the mighty A 45, A45 S, CLA 45 and CLA 45 S at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Mercedes-AMG is already revealing yet another member of the all-powerful “45” model family. Get to know the (more than expected) CLA 45 Shooting Brake and CLA 45 S Shooting Brake.

As you would expect, everything that has already been said regarding the A 45 and CLA 45 applies to the CLA 45 Shooting Brake and its S version.

The highlight remains, without a doubt, the engine. THE M 139 , as it is called, is the most powerful four cylinders today, with its meager two liters of capacity allowing a maximum power of 421 hp and 500 Nm in the S version. The standard version, not S, is not exactly anemic, as it charges 387 hp and 480 Nm.

The performance of the CLA Shooting Brake equals those of the CLA Coupé, with the 100 km/ha being achieved in just 4.1s and 4.0s in the case of the S, and with the maximum speed electronically limited to 250 km/h and 270 km/h , respectively.

All the motorized power is transmitted to the asphalt via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8G, which in turn is transmitted to all four wheels via the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system.

It also adds the AMG TORQUE CONTROL rear differential, that is, it allows torque vectoring. What this means is that the tractive force is not only distributed between the front and rear axle, but is also selectively distributed between the two rear wheels. All thanks to the presence of two electronically controlled multi-disc clutches, each connected to a rear axle shaft.

In the case of the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S Shooting Brake, this solution also allows it to be equipped as standard with a drift mode (optional on CLA 45 Shooting Brake) so we can make that “powerslide”…

Power under control

In addition to the four sprockets, the CLA 45 Shooting Brake and CLA 45 S Shooting Brake have a suspension with specific components — frequency selective springs and shock absorbers. A MacPherson layout resides at the front, with aluminum suspension triangle, and a multi-arm layout (4 in total) resides at the rear, rigidly connected to the body via a rear axle support, contributing to superior torsional resistance.

We can also opt for a suspension with adaptive damping AMG RIDE CONTROL, with three levels of damping, with the system working fully automatically.

Equally or more important than moving fast is getting to a stop faster and in that department, the fastest CLA Shooting Brake does not disappoint, with two versions for the braking system.

In the regular version we find ventilated and perforated brake discs measuring 350 mm x 34 mm and fixed monobloc brake calipers with four pistons on the front axle, while on the rear axle we find floating brake calipers with one piston and brake discs measuring 330 mm x 22 mm.

In the case of the S version or if we choose the AMG Dynamic Plus pack in the regular version, the braking system is increased. The front discs grow to 360 mm x 36 mm and the fixed brake calipers are now six pistons. The color of the tweezers is also red instead of gray, with the AMG logo of these in black instead of white.

For the rest, the CLA 45 Shooting Brake and CLA 45 S Shooting Brake inherit from the CLA 45 Coupé and CLA 45 S Coupé the same stylistic elements, both inside and out.
