Toyota Land Cruiser. The first WHO-certified vehicle for transporting vaccines

Anonim

Taking into account that not just any vehicle is capable of transporting vaccines, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Toyota Motor Corporation and B Medical Systems have joined forces to create this Toyota Land Cruiser with a very specific mission.

Based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 78, a variant of the endless Land Cruiser 70 Series, which is also produced in Portugal, in the city of Ovar (we produce the Land Cruiser 79, the double-cab pick-up here), this is the first refrigerated vehicle for the transport of vaccines to obtain the performance, quality and safety (PQS) prequalification from the WHO (World Health Organization).

Speaking of the PQS, this is a qualification system that was established to promote the development of medical devices and equipment applicable to United Nations purchases and to establish quality standards.

The preparation

To make the Toyota Land Cruiser the perfect vehicle for transporting vaccines, it was necessary to equip it with some “extras”, more precisely a “vaccination fridge”.

Created by B Medical Systems, it has a capacity of 396 liters that allows it to carry 400 packs of vaccines. Thanks to an independent battery, it can run for 16 hours without any power source.

In addition, the cooling system can also be powered by an external power source or by the Land Cruiser itself when it is in motion.
