Audi suspends orders for the SQ5. WLTP's fault?

Anonim

The news, already confirmed by an Audi spokesperson, is advanced by the British Autocar, which reports on the situation currently being experienced in Great Britain. Where it will no longer be possible to order an Audi SQ5 with the specifications desired by the customer, but only purchase a unit that is already on the network.

This situation, which, it seems, will affect not only the British market, but all European markets, will result, according to the same publication, not from the production slot being already exhausted, as the brand officially states, but from the need for Audi to adapt the emissions of the SQ5 engine to the new reality imposed by the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure, or WLTP — which enters into force on the 1st of next September.

Audi SQ5 is just one of several

Also according to Autocar, the SQ5 will be just one among many models, from several manufacturers, whose commercialization has already been suspended, due to the need for technical changes, which allow the models to comply with the determinations imposed by the WLTP.

Among the many examples is the case of BMW and the 7 Series petrol models, M3 and M2. The first, with production already suspended this year, for the Bavarian brand's engineers to reformulate the standard-bearer's exhaust system, in order to integrate a particle filter.

As for the M3, an (anticipated) end point has even been decreed in its production, already for August, and the same should happen to the M2. Although, in this case, only from the moment the M2 Competition is presented — a situation scheduled for the next 25th of April.
