THE Mercedes-AMG showed that it is paying attention to what the competition is doing and after Aston Martin presented the new Vantage, Audi renewed the R8 and a new Porsche 911 was presented, it unveiled a revised version of the Mercedes at the Los Angeles Motor Show -AMG GT.

In addition to some technological and performance improvements, the highlight is definitely the new Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro.

This hardcore version was inspired by the GT3 and GT4 competition models and thanks to that it benefits from a suspension setup based on the one used in competition and several aerodynamic additions that give it a look close to that of the competition models.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro

In this limited and radical edition of the Mercedes-AMG GT, the suspension now allows a mechanical adjustment of the compression and an adjustment of the spring preload. Mercedes-AMG also installed an adjustable carbon fiber torsion bar on the front axle and made several other changes to the suspension, all to improve performance on track.

In some markets the “Track” pack is even available. When the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is equipped with this optional package, it has a roll-cage, four-point belts and a fire extinguisher. According to Mercedes-AMG, installing the roll-cage allows for an even greater increase in structural rigidity, benefiting dynamics.

The remaining Mercedes-AMG GT

In addition to the new limited edition GT R Pro, the Mercedes-AMG GT range is made up of the GT, GT S, GT C and GT R versions and these too have been updated. The main changes come in the interior, which was inspired by the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door.

Thus, a 12.3″ digital instrument panel became available in place of the old analogue panel. The central panel was also redesigned and now has a 10.25″ screen and revised graphics. The influence of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4 doors is also visible on the steering wheel, which has a series of buttons that allow you to customize the instrument panel among several other systems.

On the outside the changes are discreet, with the Mercedes-AMG GT getting new LED headlights, a redesigned rear bumper, a redesigned rear diffuser and some new customization options and new wheels.

In technological terms the news includes the “AMG Track Pace”, which the German brand describes as a virtual racing engineer. When the car travels on the track, this system is capable of recording more than 80 vehicle-specific data 10 times per second. For this, it uses the GPS system and various sensors. All this to help the driver to improve his lap times.

The mechanics remain the same

In dynamic terms some changes were made to the chassis, with the brand not specifying them, and to the driving assistance systems. Thus, “AMG Dynamics” now offers four new modes for the stability control functions: Basic, Advanced, Pro and Master (this is only available in the GT C, GT S and GT R versions).

This system is able to anticipate the car's behavior and Mercedes-AMG claims it is able to offer the right amount of assistance to improve dynamics without taking control away from the driver.

Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster

As for the engines, no changes are known. Thus, the engine remains the 4.0 l V8 twin-turbo with different power levels. This starts at the GT's 476 hp, allowing it to reach 100 km/h in 4s. In the GT S it passes to 522 hp and reduces from 0 to 100 km/h to 3.8s. In the GT C the power goes up to 557 hp and the time from 0 to 100 km/h drops to 3.7s.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R and R Pro have the most powerful variant of the V8, with 585 hp, which allows them to take 3.6s from 0 to 100 km/h and reach a maximum speed of 318 km/h.

Despite having already been presented to the public, there is still no price or release date foreseen for the Mercedes-AMG GT.
