There has been a lot of talk about a possible return of Opel Monza to the range of the German brand and now, it seems, there are plans for this to happen.
The news is advanced by the German Auto Motor und Sport and realizes that Opel will be preparing to revive the designation.
As in the 70s of the last century, the name will be used by Opel's top of the range, but, unlike what happened in the same past, the Monza should not be a coupé.
Instead, according to the German publication, the new Monza is expected to take on the contours of a 100% electric SUV/Crossover that will be positioned above the Insignia, taking on Opel's top-of-the-range role.
what can come there
Although it is still just a rumor, the German publication advances that the new top of the range from Opel should see the light of day in 2024, presenting itself with 4.90 m in length (the Insignia hatchback measures 4.89 m while the van reaches 4.99 m).

As for the platform, everything indicates that Monza should resort to eVMP , the new electric platform from Groupe PSA capable of receiving batteries with 60 kWh to 100 kWh capacity.
The Opel Monza
Successor to the Opel Commodore Coupé, the Opel Monza was launched in 1978 as Opel's flagship coupé.
Based on Opel's “flagship” at that time, the Senator, the Monza would remain in the market until 1986 (with a midway restyling in 1982), having disappeared without leaving a direct successor.
Monza was originally released in 1978.
In 2013 the German brand resurrected the designation and with the Monza Concept showed us what a modern version of the luxury coupé could be. However, it never came forward with a production model based on the flashy prototype.
Could it be that the name Monza returns to the Opel range and the German brand has a model above its D-segment proposals? It remains for us to wait and see.
