This is the Toyota Corolla Cross. Will it come to Europe?

This year Toyota does not stop revealing new SUVs and after the Yaris Cross and the Highlander Hybrid, the Japanese brand now unveils the Toyota Corolla Cross , with Thailand being the launch market.

Based on the TGNA-C platform, the Corolla Cross measures 4.46 m long, 1.825 m wide, 1.62 m high, 2.64 m wheelbase and the luggage compartment has a generous capacity of 487 liters.

On the outside, the Corolla Cross has fully embraced the SUV lines, with plastic bodyguards and a grille that looks like the one used by the RAV4.

The interior, on the other hand, seems to be modeled on the other Corolla we already know, without any noticeable differences.

The Corolla Cross Engines

In terms of powertrains, the Toyota Corolla Cross will be available in both gasoline and hybrid versions. The gasoline offer is based on a 1.8 l with 140 hp and 177 Nm that sends power to the front wheels through a CVT box.

The hybrid version combines a 1.8 hp gasoline engine with 98 hp and 142 Nm with an electric motor with 72 hp and 163 Nm. The end result is a combined power of 122 hp and this engine is associated with an e-CVT box, a solution identical to other models such as the Corolla or the C-HR.

Will it reach Europe?

With the start of sales of the Corolla Cross in Thailand scheduled for this month, Toyota has not yet revealed in which other markets this model will be sold.

On this subject, the Japanese brand limited itself to mentioning that "the Corolla Cross will be launched in a growing number of markets in the future".

Does this mean that it will be able to reach Europe? Well, considering that Toyota already has the C-HR and the RAV4 around here, will there be space between these two for another SUV?

With its more consensual body design and a more familiar vocation, it could be a more practical alternative to the C-HR and accessible to the larger RAV4. The truth is that the demand for this type of models in the “Old Continent” continues to grow and the weight of the Corolla name in the market could influence Toyota's decision.
