New Toyota Land Cruiser 300 wins GR Sport version, but focus is not on asphalt

Aimed at markets like the Middle East or Russia, the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 despite being a large SUV and coming with a chassis with spars and crossmembers, it still had the right to a GR Sport version.

Contrary to what is usual, this one is not focused on increasing the performance on asphalt, but on improving the skills of the Japanese off-road model. Visually it's easy to spot the most focused of the Land Cruiser 300.

The body kit that this one received gave it a more aggressive look, 18” wheels, body protections and gives the perception that it can even increase the specific angles for all terrain of the Japanese proposal.

Suspension is the "secret"

But there is more. Equipped with a 3.5 l twin-turbo V6 with 415 hp and 650 Nm on petrol or a 3.3 l twin-turbo V6 on diesel with 309 hp and 700 Nm (both coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission), the Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport sees the skills all terrain boosted thanks to the use of front and rear differential locks.

Even so, it is in the suspension chapter that the Japanese jeep has the biggest news: the E-KDSS (Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) system. Electronically controlled, this suspension uses adjustable shock absorbers and automatically and independently adjusts the front and rear stabilizer bars.

In this way, the system reacts to the “conditions” that each wheel faces, adjusting the suspension articulation. According to Toyota, this system improves “high and medium speed road performance”. But at the same time, all terrain skills benefit, as you can see in the video we leave you here:

The new Land Cruiser 300

The latest chapter in a story that began 70 years ago, the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 brings with it, in this new generation, many new features.

It's true that we continue to rely on a chassis with spars and crossmembers — it's not the most sophisticated solution, but it's still the most robust and suitable solution for the intended use — with the Land Cruiser 300 using the new GA-F platform, yet another “daughter” of TNGA, the global architecture that serves all Toyota platforms.

This allowed for an increase in structural rigidity by 20%, and a reduction in the Land Cruiser's mass by 200 kg, in addition to having a lower center of gravity.

With much more technology, an interior in line with the latest Toyota proposals (where the central screen that can go up to 12.3”) and two engines (the same that equip the GR Sport version) stand out, the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 — the first Land Cruiser SW since the 200 launched in 2007 — is not expected to come to Europe.
