In an election decided by 86 jurors from 24 countries (Guilherme Costa, co-founder and director of Razão Automóvel, is one of them), Carlos Tavares was elected Person of the Year in the 2020 World Car Trophy, succeeding Sergio Marchionne, who won, in the title posthumously, the prestigious award in 2019.
The award ceremony is scheduled for April 8 at the New York Motor Show, an event in which Carlos Tavares is expected to be present and which will serve as the stage for the revelation of the winner of the 2020 World Car Awards.
About this choice, one of the judges commented “His calm, dignified, modest and highly effective approach “shames” other executives. At the foundation (of its success) is an understanding of customer needs, supported by incredible business acumen.”

The reasons behind the election
It is not difficult to find reasons for the election of Carlos Tavares as Person of the Year in the 2020 World Car Trophy.
To begin with, the CEO of Grupo PSA was responsible for the return to profits of Peugeot, Citroën and, above all, Opel, after acquiring it from General Motors, something that was achieved in record time and that had not happened since 1999 !
