Renegade "dresses up" to celebrate 80 years of the Jeep. Option to consider?

Anonim

Celebrating 80 years of life, Jeep decided to “dress up” some of its models with the special 80th Anniversary series that reached, among others, the Renegade Jeep.

With a more exclusive look and the ever-appealing “seal” of a special series (albeit unnumbered), does the Renegade 80th Anniversary have substance beyond the “decor”?

To find out if this version brings real benefits to those who opt for it, we put the Renegade 80th Anniversary to the test in what is, for now, its most powerful version, the one equipped with the 1.3 l petrol turbo with 150 hp.

What do you get?

For starters, the Renegade 80th Anniversary starts by offering greater exclusivity and a greater prominence in a car park in which (for Jeep's sake) the Renegade is a common sight.

For this, it presents itself with a series of specific logos to which are added applications in Gray Granite Crystal with low gloss; the seats covered in diamond-patterned fabric; interior appliqués in glossy black; the specific wheels; the tinted windows; the Full LED pack on the outside and the Uconnect infotainment with 8.4” touch screen.

But there is more. As you would expect, this special anniversary version presents itself with a (very) complete list of standard equipment which does not lack systems such as an effective adaptive cruise control or the lane crossing and frontal collision warning.

As a matter of fact, to give you an idea, in the tested unit there are only three optional equipment: metallic paint, the panoramic sunroof and a pack that brings with it an automatic parking system, the blind spot assistant and the useful rear parking camera.

If these were the differences between the Jeep Renegade 80th Anniversary and the other Renegade, it remains the B-SUV we already knew.

Starting from the interior, there we continue to find correct ergonomics (not lacking the presence of several physical controls) and a good overall robustness. Still, it's the feeling of space on board that's most impressive.

Inside the black color is dominant.

It's true that the 351 liters of luggage capacity are not benchmarks and even the measuring tape reminds us that the room rates are only the average for the segment. However, the “square” shapes of the bodywork contribute to a pleasant feeling of space and ease aboard today's smallest Jeep.

Already at the wheel, the 1.3 l gasoline turbo with 150 hp continues to convince more than its counterpart of 1.0 l turbo with 120 hp, but still without being a reference in the segment. Coupled with a dual-clutch automatic transmission and six gears, this one prefers the “Sport” mode to show the best it has to offer.

The only drawback is that, when we select it, consumption tends to increase — from 6.5 to 7.0 l/100 km in a calm driving to values in the region of 8.0 l/100 km — regardless of the “theatre of operations”, be it in the most common, the urban jungle, or in the highway.

Finally, in the field of behavior we continue to rely on a healthy and predictable model that, despite its considerable height, does a good job of “contrarying” the laws of physics and ensures a good compromise between comfort and behavior.

Special series like this 80th Anniversary are almost always good opportunities for consumers. This is because these tend to enrich the list of standard equipment without making the final price too expensive.

Renegade Jeep

Well, that's exactly what happens with this Jeep Renegade 80th Anniversary that, for around 32 000 euros, presents itself with a complete list of equipment to continue writing the success story of the brand that was born 80 years ago.

To the qualities already recognized to the Jeep Renegade, this version adds a greater “aura” of exclusivity without becoming overly showy, something that could turn potential customers away from these versions.

Note: at the time of publication of this article, there is a campaign worth 3750 euros which allows you to purchase a Renegade 80th Anniversary Jeep with the specification of the tested copy for 32 671 euros.
