Land Rover Defender Works V8 Trophy. A tribute in the form of vehicle and competition

Anonim

THE Land Rover Defender Works V8 Trophy it is due tribute to the legacy of the expeditions that for more than two decades (1980-1998, 2003 and 2006) took Man and Machine to their limits, namely the Camel Trophy and its successor, G4 Challenge.

These expeditions took place all over the world and became famous for their toughness, both for the flesh and blood participants, as for the machines themselves.

With the exception of the first edition of the Camel Trophy, all the others were supported by Land Rover, with practically every model of the brand having taken part in the event: from the Series III, to the Defenders 90 and 110, passing through Discovery, Range Rover and not even little Freelander missed roll call.

A new competitive event, the Land Rover Trophy, inspired by past events, is being organized by Land Rover for this year, and will be located at Eastnor Castle, UK.

Participants will have individual sessions by experts who will help develop extreme driving skills and techniques in their own vehicles, before putting them to the test in the various challenges to overcome.

The competitive part of the event is the achievement of several awards that will contribute to an overall ranking, where the winner or winner will win a grand prize (to be announced in a few months). An event with more extreme characteristics that needs a vehicle to match.

Based on the Land Rover Defender Works V8 (2012-2016), the modifications operated by Land Rover Classic to transform them into Trophy consist of “arming them to the teeth” to overcome all obstacles in the event, just like the Defenders who participated in the expeditions of yore.

Additional arsenal includes a front winch, external rollbar, roof rack, underguards, front guardrail, raised air intake, additional LED lights and special mud tires (235/85 R16).

Strength is not lacking. The Land Rover Defender Works V8 Trophy uses an atmospheric V8 with 5.0 l capacity that delivers 405 hp and 515 Nm of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission (ZF). Traction, of course, is all-round, being fitted with a two-speed transfer box, reinforced front and rear differentials and a self-locking center differential.

The suspension is made up of rigid axles both at the front and at the rear, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and stabilizer bars. At the front we also have a Panhard bar and radial arms, while at the rear we have a suspension triangle and tie rod.

The nostalgic feeling is given by the color chosen for the bodywork, Eastnor Yellow (similar to the one used in the Camel Trophy, for example), which is also the chosen color for the 16″ reinforced steel wheels. In contrast, the fenders, hood and boot lid will be coated in Narvik Black. The external package is rounded off by the presence of LED headlamps, Heritage front grille, the exclusive Land Rover Trophy logo and each owner's event participation information.

Inside, Windsor leather is a dominant feature, accompanied by contrasting yellow stitching and comes equipped with Recaro sports seats. Also noteworthy is the watch specifically designed by Elliot Brown for the Land Rover Trophy. The “touch” of modernity is given by the presence of the Land Rover Classic infotainment system, with integrated navigation and connectivity to mobile devices.
