Suzuki Jimny is back, but as a commercial

Anonim

The phenomenon that is the Suzuki Jimmy saw its commercialization in Europe interrupted when the year 2020 was still an innocent baby. The reason? Its high CO2 emissions.

As we have mentioned countless times throughout the year, this year 95% of car sales in the “old continent” will already have to meet the dreaded 95 g/km overall (value varies depending on the brand/group) stipulated by the European Union. The 178-198 g/km of the Jimny made it impossible for Suzuki to meet the established targets.

However, homologating the most compact all-terrain vehicle as a commercial vehicle is no longer part of these calculations, mitigating the problem. Commercial vehicles are also required to reduce their CO2 emissions, but they have a different level: by 2021, the target to be reached is 147 g/km.

Which gives the Suzuki Jimny an opportunity to return to the European market until a more definitive alternative is found. That is, until another engine with lower emissions is found, or even a revision of the 1.5 l naturally aspirated block.

Thus, the “new” Jimny returns as a small commercial of just two places. What is lost in passenger capacity is compensated with a trunk, now worthy of the name. There are 863 l of capacity — 33 l even more than the Jimny's maximum passenger capacity with the seats down. The floor is completely flat and there is a safety partition between the cargo compartment and the cabin.

The cargo compartment reset is the only difference from the Suzuki Jimny we used to know. Otherwise everything remains the same.

It continues to draw on the same 102 hp 1.5 l, as it continues to maintain the same recognized off-road hardware and features. Also the list of equipment, especially those related to safety, is as complete as that of the passenger version.

It only remains to know when it arrives on the national market and what the price will be.
