Ford Mustang Mach 1 has already arrived in Portugal. V8, 460 hp and optimized for the track

It is the latest addition to the range and recalls a historic designation on Mustang. The new Ford Mustang Mach 1 it fills, as far as possible, the void left by the Shelby GT350 (and the more extreme GT350R), which were never marketed in Europe.

The Mach 1 was optimized to “attack” the tracks, however, it is not as extreme as the GT350, but inheriting from this — and the GT500 — several components and lessons learned in the dynamic chapter.

Thus, the GT350 receives the same six-speed Tremec manual gearbox with automatic heel, and is also available with the 10-speed automatic gearbox (the same one we find on Ranger Raptor, for example). The GT500 receives the rear axle cooling system, the rear diffuser and the 4.5″ diameter (11.43 cm) exhaust.

At chassis level, we find new calibrations on the Magneride suspension — MacPherson at the front and multi-arm at the rear — with the front springs, stabilizer bars and suspension bushings raising their firmness indexes. The electrically assisted steering is recalibrated and the steering column has been reinforced.

It distinguishes itself from the other Mustangs by the introduction of elements inspired by the first Mustang Mach 1 (1969), namely the pair of circles on the grille to remind the positioning of the optics in the original or the 19″ five-spoke wheels of specific design to the image of the Mach 1 of 1969.

How much is there?

Motivating the Ford Mustang Mach 1 we have the well-known 5.0 V8 Coyote used in the Mustang GT, but here to debit another 10 hp, that is, 460 hp in total with the torque rising to 529 Nm.

Numbers that allow the rear-wheel drive coupe to reach 100 km/h in 4.8s with the manual transmission and 4.4s with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Interestingly, it is the manual that reaches the highest maximum speed: 267 km/h against 249 km/h. The Mach 1 automatic recovers an advantage in consumption and CO2 emissions: 11.7 l/100 km and 270 g/km against 12.4 l/100 km and 284 g/km.

How much does it cost?

The new Ford Mustang Mach 1 arrives in Portugal with prices starting at 109,280 euros for the automatic and 116,210 euros for the manual. The rest of the range is now limited to V8 engines, with the previous four-cylinder 2.3 EcoBoost disappearing from the catalogue.
