Alfa Romeo is now 108 years old. We celebrate like this...

Anonim

Passion for mechanics. This was the motto that brought together, in 1910, a group of investors passionate about speed and mechanics — a succession of events that will soon deserve a more in-depth article in our classics section.

From this passion Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili was born, or if you prefer, ALFA.

The suffix Romeo appeared just eight years later, when the engineer Nicola Romeo acquired this brand, which already stood out for its sporting results and the engineering solutions of its models.

So much history…

Always connoted with values such as beauty, performance and state-of-the-art engineering, not everything has been rosy throughout Alfa Romeo's 108-year history.

Alfa Romeo faced several times financial difficulties that put its survival at risk, until in 1986 it found the stability it needed in the hands of the Fiat Group, today FCA.

But today we are not going to dedicate ourselves to the brand's past. Otherwise we would have to talk about Formula 1, rallies, speed, endurance, in short, competition. We would have to speak of acronyms like 6C, TI, GT, GTA, TZ and SZ; from names like Giulietta, Giulia and Spider; or of magic numbers like 1750, 1900, 33 and 155. And I didn't mention even half...

Today is a day of celebration. And the best way we found to mark this date, was launching our test of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio on this day.

As you saw in the launch trailer for our YouTube channel, we've already recorded this video over six months ago. It was supposed to be released before but… thankfully we didn't. So we take this video to celebrate the brand's 108 years of history in style.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is, without a doubt, a model that contains in itself the best Alfa Romeo form moment of the last decades.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
Rough, beautiful and powerful. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio owns, as far as I am concerned, the best chassis in the segment.

The future of Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo was reborn in 2012, after a decade marked by the fading of the brand's values. The first model of this new phase of the Italian brand was the Alfa Romeo 4C . A model that was, above all, a reaffirmation of the brand's values and commitments for the future: beauty, nobility, technology and of course… cuore sportivo.

The Alfa Romeo 4C was all that. And like so many other models in Alfa Romeo's history, it was a model that aroused both passions and criticism — in my case, both (remember my words in this link). In the end, the promises of brand improvements remained.

But the ultimate 'new generation' Alfa Romeo was not the 4C. That honor fell to the new Alfa Romeo Giulia , the new pillar of the Italian brand. A pillar from which other extremely important models have already resulted with the Stelvio and in the coming years the new Giulietta.

Alfa Romeo Symbol

What will the future of the brand look like? In this article you have all Alfa Romeo plans until 2022 . But let's get back to the present.

Opening of a new museum, return to Formula 1… at 108 years old, Alfa Romeo is with more vitality than ever.

More than equal to itself, Alfa Romeo is better than ever. Congratulations Alfa Romeo! Let 108 more years come.
