The new SEAT S.A. "recruits" are over 2.5 meters tall and weigh 3 tons

Capable of producing a car every 30 seconds, the SEAT SA factory in Martorell has two new points of interest: two robots measuring 3.0 m and more than 2.5 m in height that join the more than 2200 already operating on the assembly line at that factory.

With a payload capacity of 400 kg, they not only simplify part of the car's assembly process, but also reduce the space occupied by the assembly line.

About these, Miguel Pozanco, responsible for Robotics at SEAT S.A. said: "In order to transport and assemble the most voluminous parts of the car and ensure that its structure was not affected, we had to use a larger robot".

There are “stronger” robots in Martorell

Although their 400 kg load capacity is impressive and they are able to assemble three of the heaviest components of the vehicles, “those that make up the side of the car”, these are not the robots with the highest load capacity in Martorell. robots in SEAT SA's inventory that are capable of carrying up to 700 kg.

The lower carrying capacity of these giants is justified by their greater reach, as Miguel Pozanco explains to us: “There is a relationship between the weight a robot can carry and its reach. Holding a bucket of water with your arm close to your body is not the same as holding it with your arm extended. This giant can carry 400 kilos almost 4.0 m from its central axis”.

Able to perform two operations at the same time, thus increasing the quality of the parts, these robots can join the three sides and transfer them to the welding area without any other robot having to deal with these components again.

In addition to all this, the two new “Martorell giants” have software that allows remote monitoring of all their operating data (engine consumption, temperature, torque and acceleration), thus facilitating the detection of possible unforeseen events and the carrying out preventive maintenance.
