Now it's official. Porsche says goodbye definitively to diesel engines

What appeared to be a temporary measure in preparation for the WLTP has now become permanent. THE Porsche officially announced that diesel engines will no longer be part of its range.

The justification for the abandonment is in the sales numbers, which have been decreasing. In 2017, only 12% of its global sales corresponded to Diesel engines. Since February this year, Porsche has not had a diesel engine in its portfolio.

On the other hand, demand for electrified powertrains in the Zuffenhausen brand has not stopped growing, to the point that it has already led to problems in the supply of batteries — in Europe, 63% of Panamera sold correspond to hybrid variants.

Porsche is not demonizing Diesel. It is and will continue to be an important propulsion technology. We as a sports car builder, however, where Diesel has always played a secondary role, have come to the conclusion that we would like our future to be Diesel free. Naturally, we will continue to take care of our current Diesel customers with all the professionalism expected.

The hybrids already present in the range — Cayenne and Panamera — will be accompanied, from 2019, with their first 100% electric vehicle, the Taycan, anticipated by the Mission E concept. It won't be the only one, speculating that the second Porsche model then the all-electric route is the Macan, its smallest SUV.

Porsche announces that by 2022 it will have invested more than six billion euros in electric mobility, and by 2025, every Porsche must have either a hybrid or electric powertrain — 911 included!
