New Porsche 911 Safari on the way? Spy photos "catch" prototype

After introducing the 911 GTS and the 911 GT3 Touring, Porsche already has another variant of the 911 (generation 992) in the pipeline. And this one is quite curious, since everything indicates that it is a modern version of the 911 Safari.

If at the end of last year we became aware of the 911 Vision Safari prototype (991 generation) — inspired by the Porsche 911 SC that won the 1978 East African Safari Rally —, created in 2012, there is growing evidence that the brand has Zuffenhausen could even launch a 911 with “pants rolled up”.

And if there were any doubts, the spy-photos we had access to — nationally exclusive — of a prototype 911 being tested seem to undo them.

“Hunted” in the vicinity of the Nürburgring circuit (and also inside, on the circuit), this prototype 911 (992) displays a very high suspension compared to a “conventional” Porsche 911 and slightly modified bumpers, in order to offer more favorable angles of attack and departure.

The widened wheel arches are also another “clue” that lead us to believe that this may be a more adventurous configuration of the 911, which everything indicates that it will have all-wheel drive, so it is not unreasonable to think that the starting point should be the 4S race.

The latest rumors suggest that the Porsche 911 Safari could be officially unveiled later this year or as early as 2022, with arrival on the market later that year.

However, and confirming that this is in fact the “surprise” that the Stuttgart brand is preparing, it remains to be seen whether the appearance of the 911 Safari will be made permanently, as another variant of the 911 range, or if through of a special limited edition.
