New Porsche 911 Turbo S (992) jumps by 70 hp over its predecessor (video)

The 992 generation of the eternal 911 has just received what is also, for now, its most powerful member, the new Porsche 911 Turbo S , both as coupé and cabriolet. Interestingly, the German brand only revealed the Turbo S, leaving the “normal” Turbo for another occasion.

Being the most powerful, the new 911 Turbo S does not leave its credits in the hands of others, presenting itself with 650 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque , a considerable leap from the previous generation 991 — that's over 70 hp and 50 Nm.

Enough to catapult the new machine in just 2.7s to 100 km/h (0.2s faster than the predecessor), and needing a mere 8.9s up to 200 km/h , a full second less than the previous 911 Turbo S. Top speed remains at 330 km/h — is it really necessary?

Six cylinder boxer, what else?

Porsche says the boxer six-cylinder of the new 911 Turbo S, despite maintaining capacity at 3.8 l, is a new engine. Based on the engine of the 911 Carrera, the boxer features a redesigned cooling system; two new variable geometry turbos with electrically adjustable vanes for the wastegate valve; and piezo injectors.

Also compared to the pair of variable geometry turbos, these are symmetrical, rotate in opposite directions, and are also larger — the turbine has grown from 50mm to 55mm, while the compressor wheel is now 61mm, plus 3mm from the that previously.

All the power of the boxer six-cylinder is transferred to the asphalt at four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, known by the famous acronym PDK, here specific for the Turbo S.

Dynamically, the new Porsche 911 Turbo S features PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) and a 10 mm reduced ground clearance as standard. The Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system is now able to send more force to the front axle, up to 500 Nm.

Wheels are also presented, for the first time, with different diameters depending on the axle. At the front they are 20″, with 255/35 tyres, while at the rear they are 21″, with 315/30 tyres.

Bigger and more distinguished

Not only is it more powerful and faster, the new 911 Turbo S has grown too — we've also seen the growth from the 991 generation to the 992 generation. 20 mm more over the rear axle (wider track by 10 mm) for an overall width of 1.90 m.

Externally, it stands out for its dual light modules and comes as standard with Matrix LED headlamps, with black inserts. The front spoiler is pneumatically extendable, and the redesigned rear wing is capable of producing up to 15% more downforce. The exhaust outlets are typical of the 911 Turbo, rectangular in shape.

Inside, the leather upholstery is highlighted, with applications in carbon fiber with details in Light Silver (silver). The PCM infotainment system consists of a 10.9″ touchscreen; the sports steering wheel (GT), the sports seats are adjustable in 18 directions and the BOSE® Surround Sound audio system complete the bouquet.
