Cold Start. Ford wants to heat the interior of police cars to… kill the Covid-19

Betting on protecting the police who use the Ford Police Interceptor Utility in the USA, Ford is developing a software that allows to heat the cabin up to 56º C for 15 minutes to kill the coronavirus.

The idea came about as a result of a study done by the Ford Motor Company in conjunction with the Department of Microbiology at Ohio University.

In this one, the results obtained demonstrate that by exposing the coronavirus to temperatures of 56º C for 15 minutes, its viral concentration on the surfaces used in Ford Police Interceptor Utility reduces by 99%.

The software acts on the climate system and the engine to increase the temperature and, according to Ford, it can be retrofitted into any Ford Police Interceptor Utility dated from 2013 to 2019.

For now, the software is still in the testing phase, however, if it proves to be effective, it can be installed at the various dealerships of the North American brand.
