New BMW 5 Series (G60) in 2023. Will it be like that?

Anonim

In this new set of spy photos, exclusively national, of the future BMW 5 Series G60 , set to arrive in 2023, we have two test prototypes “caught up” by photographers.

The first, coming out of a transport truck, is the future “purely” combustion-powered Series 5 — the first time it has been caught by the cameras — while the second, seen on the streets of Munich, where the IAA is currently taking place. Mobility, the first European motor show this year, is a test prototype of the plug-in hybrid.

Also for the first time we get a small glimpse of the interior, although the camouflage and the distance at which the photo was taken leave little to be seen, and it will adopt the curved dashboard that we have seen in recent BMWs launched.

On the other hand, thanks to the “magic” of digital image manipulation, we show a prominent projection of what the future BMW 5 Series G60 could look like based on the model's spy photos, in which the camouflage of the model was “removed” test prototypes.

The bet seems to be one of evolution and not of cutting with the current generation, although the face of the future Series 5, with its more “torn” headlights following the contours of the hood, echoes the most expressive of all Series 5 , the E60 generation.

Highly electrified range

It was last July that we saw the future generation BMW 5 Series for the first time on the street, but since then little or nothing has been known about what to expect from the model.

What is more than confirmed is that the new 5 Series G60 will be the most electrified 5 Series ever. In addition to the mild-hybrid gasoline and diesel versions, the plug-in hybrid variants should be, even more than today, the most relevant for the model's commercial performance.

The big news, however, will be the launch of the unprecedented 100% electric Series 5, which will adopt the designation i5 . In addition to the unique powertrain, it should also be distinguished by stylistic elements that are distinct from the other 5 Series, a bit like what happens between the iX3 and the other X3.

Everything indicates that the future BMW i5 inherits from the iX the same specifications as the xDrive40 version (240 kW or 326 hp, 630 Nm; 71 kWh battery), and a more affordable version may be on the horizon, with just one engine and one drive axle.

A possibility that gains relevance now that we know what will be its great rival, the Mercedes-Benz EQE, which was presented at the Munich Motor Show in the EQE 350 version, with a 215 kW (292 hp) rear engine and a 90 battery kWh that gives an autonomy of up to 660 km.

We'll still have to wait a while longer to confirm all the little information we have about the new 5 Series G60, not least because its final revelation will only happen in 2023.
