New Opel Mokka loses "X" but gains electric version

Scheduled for arrival in 2021, the new generation of Opel Mokka has already been anticipated in a teaser now released by the German brand.

Launched in 2012, the Mokka went virtually unnoticed in Portugal due to our aberrant class system at the tolls — it was Class 2. However, it was a huge success abroad, having been one of the best-selling B-SUVs in Europe, losing only a few. glow with the arrival of Crossland X.

In 2016 it was renovated and was renamed Mokka X. But the new generation, as Opel's announcement advances, will lose the “X” that has meanwhile become the hallmark of Opel SUVs.

What is already known?

As might be expected, information about the new Opel Mokka is sparse. Still, there are some data that we can already tell you. We still can't see it under the camouflage, but it seems that the new Mokka will adopt lines inspired by the GT X Experimental concept unveiled in 2018.

For a start, and as expected, the new Mokka should be based on the CMP platform, the same one that serves as the basis for the Opel Corsa and the “cousins” Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback.

In terms of engines, the highlight will be the introduction of an electric variant, most likely with the same 136 hp we found on the Corsa-e, powered by a 50 kWh battery.

In addition to this electric variant, Opel also claims that the new Mokka will feature conventional engines. Among these, and should the Mokka share the engines with the 2008, there should be the 1.2 PureTech in the 100, 130 and 155 hp variants and a 1.5 Diesel with 100 or 130 hp.

It remains to be seen if a variant with four-wheel drive is in the plans, one of the differentiating characteristics of the Mokka X, sorry, Mokka, in the segment — there are few models in this segment that offer two drive axles.
