Will 1200 hp in an Opel Corsa B GSi be enough to beat a Ferrari 488 Pista?

Anonim

Originally equipped with a 1.6 l with 106 hp, the Vauxhall Corsa GSi (known here as Opel), it would hardly be seen as a possible rival to a supercar like the Ferrari 488 Pista.

However, if there's one thing the tuning world has already shown us, it's that with the will (and the money) any car can go from being a quiet utility car to an explosive sleeper. So, after some time ago an Opel Kadett had faced an Audi RS 6, R8 and a BMW M3, it was the little Corsa GSi's turn to try his luck in a duel of “David against Goliath”.

To become a “Ferrari hunter”, this Corsa GSi received not one, but two turbo engines with 2.0 l capacity. The first is placed in the “normal” place, under the hood, while the second appears where the rear seats should be.

The end result is around 1200 hp and 1300 Nm of torque that are tasked with driving a 90's SUV that weighs no more than 1250 kg and doesn't have traction control or even ABS!

What else has changed?

In addition to the two engines, this Vauxhall Corsa GSi lost practically all its interior, received a roll cage, an intercooler, new headlights and a rear window with several openings to cool the rear engine.

But does all this allow you to beat the Ferrari 488 Pista and the 720 hp and 770 Nm that it extracts from its 3.9 l V8 twin-turbo? Well, the Driven Media YouTube channel didn't just do a simple drag race and ran braking tests, skill tests and two drag races (one with stopped and the other with launched).

As for the result, we leave the video here so you can find out if it was worth taking the modest German SUV to the “gym” or if the Ferrari 488 Pista managed to assert its “competition DNA” to justify favoritism.
