Opel will return to the past to recover one of its most iconic models, the Manta, which will be reborn in the form of a 100% electric restomod and whose final revelation is expected to take place over the next few weeks.
Denominated Opel Blanket GSe ElektroMOD , this vintage electric tram — as the Rüsselsheim brand itself defines it — has the same iconic design as the model that bears the manta ray as a symbol and which celebrated 50 years ago, but receives a current electric motor.
“The best of both worlds: maximum thrills with zero emissions”, is how Opel describes it, explaining that the name “MOD” results from two distinct concepts: Modern in technology and sustainable lifestyle and in the abbreviated form of the British term "MODification".
On the other hand, the German term “Elektro” — also present in the official name of this restomod — is a reference to the Opel Elektro GT, the first electric car from the German brand that, 50 years ago, set several world records associated with electric vehicles.
“What was sculptural and simple half a century ago still fits neatly into Opel's current design philosophy. The Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD thus presents itself with total daring and confidence, starting a new cycle of the future: electric, emission-free and with all the emotions”, explains the group's German brand Stellantis.
As you can see in the image released by Opel and in the video that serves as a teaser, the Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD will feature the latest visual concept from the German brand, called Opel Vizor (debuted at Mokka), with the new Opel logo and with an LED luminous signature.
Opel hasn't revealed any details about the electric powertrain that will "animate" this project, but has confirmed that it will have an all-digital instrument panel and that it will be as sporty as an original Opel GSE.

Looking to the future, electrification will arrive en masse at Opel, which aims to electrify all models in its range by 2024, continuing a trend that is already in motion and that has in Corsa-e, Zafira- and, Vivaro-e and Combo-e are its main protagonists.
