Forget the old one. This is the new Opel Mokka

Remember the Opel Mokka X? Eventually not. This model had a troubled commercial career in Portugal — as a result of the class 2 classification in tolls. But in this second generation of the German SUV (now with a French accent…) it could be different.

Now with a more appealing aesthetic, Mokka also debuts new arguments. In addition to losing the “X” in the name, the Opel Mokka also lost weight and saw its dimensions drastically changed: as a result of the adoption of the PSA Group's CMP platform — shared with the Peugeot 2008 — the Opel Mokka now weighs 120 kg less.

smaller on the outside

In terms of dimensions, the new generation is 12.5 cm shorter (4.15 m), yet it gained 2 mm of wheelbase. The width has already increased by 10 mm, which should contribute to a more robust appearance on the road.

Despite the slimming, the Mokka offers practically the same luggage capacity as the old Mokka X, ie 350 liters.

Opel Mokka Electric? Naturally

With the same platform as the Peugeot 2008, it would be strange if the Mokka didn't have a 100% electric version.

In a first phase of launch, Opel will give priority to the 100% electric version of the Mokka.

In addition to a complete range of diesel and gasoline engines — which should be a carbon paper copy of the 2008 Peugeot — we will also have a 100% electric version, equipped with a 50 kWh battery pack and 136 hp (100 kW) ).

For the 100% electric version of the Opel Mokka, the brand announces a range of 322 km (WLTP cycle).

In terms of charging speed, the system supports up to 100 kWh, thus allowing a complete quick charge to be carried out in just 30 minutes.

Bet on technology

It's not just looks. The new Mokka is truly committed to technological content. In the more equipped versions, it will even be possible to opt for headlights with Matrix LED technology.

Inside, the highlight goes to the infotainment system, which, in the more equipped versions, uses an instrument panel with a 12-inch screen, accompanied by another 10-inch touch-sensitive screen, in a «side-by-side» arrangement , repeating a layout we know from other brands like Mercedes-Benz.

There are petrol and diesel versions, but initially, the Rüsselsheim brand will give primacy to the 100% electric variant.

Orders for the new Opel Mokka will open at the end of this summer, with the first units expected to arrive in Portugal in early 2021. There are still no prices announced for the Portuguese market.
