Cold Start. Did you already know the Covini C6W, the supercar with 6 wheels?

Anonim

All because this Italian super sports car has a six wheels total — four in front and two in back. Unveiled to the world in 2004, it went into production in 2006 (an estimated 6-8 units per year), but we're not sure how many units of the Covini C6W have already been produced.

Conceived by Ferruccio Covini, the founder of Covini Engineering, its origins date back to 1974. The project would have been suspended at the time due to the lack of tyres, or rather, the technology to get the low-profile tires it needed. The project would be resumed, little by little, in the 80s and 90s.

The question is why four wheels ahead? Briefly, security and performance.

In case of a puncture, it is possible to control the car and there is less risk of aquaplaning. The brake discs are smaller, but with four you get a larger braking surface, reducing the potential for overheating. Comfort is allegedly superior; unsprung masses are lower and directional stability is also improved.

Motivating the Covini C6W is a 4.2 V8 (Audi) in central rear position, with 440 hp, being able to skim 300 km/h.

The price? Around 600 thousand euros… base.
