A sporty version of Mokka-e is coming. But it doesn't bring more power

Absent from the Opel range for a few years, the acronym OPC could return as early as 2022. The one chosen to bring it back? THE Opel Mokka-e.

Confirmation was given by Stephen Norman, managing director of Vauxhall (Opel's British sister) in statements to AutoExpress, with the latter stating: “We will launch the Mokka VXR (Mokka OPC in the rest of Europe) in early 2022 and it will have an electric motor”.

Interestingly enough, this higher performance version doesn't come with more power, bearing in mind Stephen Norman's words: “If you're asking about top speed and acceleration, we've got more than enough. But we can improve performance in other ways.”

Opel Mokka-e
The Mokka-e will be the model responsible for the return of the acronym OPC to Opel.

What to expect?

Taking into account the statements of the managing director of Vauxhall, the most likely is that the future Opel Mokka-e OPC will thus offer the same 136 hp and 260 Nm of the Mokka-e that we already know. Values taken from a front electric motor, powered by a battery with a capacity of 50 kWh, which allows, in the case of the Mokka-e on sale, 320 km of autonomy.

That said, how to extract greater performance? The differences between the two Mokka-e, regular and OPC, will have to focus on the chassis — suspension, wheels and braking — and steering. And also without forgetting the aesthetics. In other words, if the “OPC tradition” continues, we can expect a Mokka-e with a kind of official tuning kit both on the outside and inside.

Although the changes seem small, Stephen Norman has stated that the Mokka-e OPC will "offer a level of performance superior to what anyone can expect".

As for the arrival of the acronym OPC/VXR to other Opel/Vauxhall models, this seems to be confirmed. Thus, in addition to the Corsa-e, the Vivaro-e and the future Astra will also have an OPC variant.
