What if the BMW M5 E39 had a coupe?

THE BMW M5 E39 continues to cast a long shadow over its successors — it's still one of the most coveted M5's. The atmospheric 5.0 V8 and 400 hp, the six manual gearbox, the rear-wheel drive and an interactive and efficient chassis made it one of the most balanced and cohesive sets when it comes to high-performance saloons.

Its full and sonorous V8, code-named S62, would be practically its exclusive — let's not forget the BMW Z8, the roadster with beautiful nostalgic lines — unlike today, where we can find the M5 engine in an endless series of models: X5M, X6M, M8 Coupé, M8 Cabriolet and M8 Gran Coupé… curiously, not a van in sight.

At the time of the M5 E39 BMW's only M coupe was a segment down, the M3, and this one featured an in-line six-cylinder (E36 and E46) — the S62 in a coupe? Nor see him.

It is with this premise that we bring another video by designer Marouane, The Sketch Monkey. He proposed to idealize a BMW M5 E39 Coupe , derived directly from the hatchback we know.

The style chosen by The Sketch Monkey tries to highlight a sportier or more dynamic side of the classic design saloon we know, with slight influences from the Bangle era, the infamous designer who brought us “flame surfacing” or flaming surfaces at the beginning of this century — the BMW 7 Series E65 was the first production vehicle to introduce the new type of styling.

What do you think? Would a BMW M5 E39 Coupé have any chance of success or is it just a piece of fantasy that should remain just that, a fantasy?
