BMW X4 live and in color at the Geneva Motor Show

The first generation of BMW X4 had a somewhat short existence, just four years, but the commercial results of its SAC (Sports Activity Coupe) must have been encouraging enough for BMW not to waste time launching the second generation, already derived from the latest BMW X3, presented last year.

The Bavarian brand promises a more mature model and a more refined dynamic behavior, in addition to better internal quotas and reinforcement in technological equipment.

BMW X4 grows: more space available

The new BMW X4 grows in dimensions, except for the height which is 2 mm lower than the predecessor, with the main beneficiaries being the rear passengers, or rather its legs, which now have 24 mm more of available longitudinal space. The luggage compartment also grows a little, being now 525 liters.

Despite the growth in dimensions, the X4 announces a weight reduction of up to 50 kg, while the drag coefficient is reduced by 10%, with the Cx now being 0.30.

more technology

If the exterior design maintains the same recipe as the predecessor, the interior evolution is clearly more visible. The result, above all, of the adoption of a new multifunction steering wheel, a 12″ digital instrument panel with Black Panel technology and a new infotainment system comprising a 10.25″ touchscreen, which can also accept commands by voice or gestures .

The list of possible equipment is extensive, many of them optional: it can come with Bi-LED front optics as standard, Head-Up Display, panoramic roof or three-zone air conditioning. When it comes to safety, we find equipment such as frontal collision warning, autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian detection.

Six engines available

The new X4 features three petrol and three diesel engines, all equipped with the same eight-speed automatic transmission Steptronic and all-wheel drive:

  • BMW X4 xDrive20i — 2.0 4cyl. line, 184 hp
