Spy photos prove that BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will have another generation

At a time when many brands have been giving up on the MPV (minivans) segment, BMW, one of the last to enter there, it seems that it will also be one of the last to leave. BMW prepares to launch a new generation of Series 2 Active Tourer.

First caught in testing in 2019, the new 2-Series Active Tourer has now emerged with far less camouflage on the Nürburgring circuit, allowing you to anticipate more of the lines of the second-generation BMW MPV that was originally launched in 2014.

The silhouette is familiar, but we have a new front with LED headlights, a slightly more muscular and sporty look and, as you'd expect, a larger double kidney.

Inside, from the little that we can see, it is clear how prominent the screens will be, with those of the instrument panel and infotainment system appearing side by side.

What is already known?

Scheduled for its debut at the Munich Motor Show, the second generation of the German MPV will be based on the latest version of the UKL platform (which will also be used by the new generations of the X1 and X2), and will be presented with Diesel engines, petrol and with the increasingly mandatory plug-in hybrid versions.

Everything indicates that this second generation of the Series 2 Active Tourer will offer more space, not only for passengers, but also for luggage. However, the seven-seat Gran Tourer version seems to have its “days numbered”.

The monocab format remains, but has gained a more "muscled" look.

Given the disappearance of the long version of the Series 2 Active Tourer, a question arises: Will the “normal” Series 2 Active Tourer grow a little bigger to receive two additional seats? Or will BMW follow in the footsteps of arch-rival Mercedes-Benz and launch a seven-seater version of the future X1 to compete with GLB?
