After the Renault 5 comes the Renault 4

Renault will launch, by 2025, seven 100% electric models. One is the long-awaited Renault 5, and the other is, it seems, the reincarnation of the Renault 4 , which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

While the new 5 has already been anticipated in the form of a prototype and is scheduled for launch in 2023, the Renault 4 should appear, according to Autocar, only in 2025.

Although it has not yet been confirmed, the return of the Renault 4 has been “left in the air” on some occasions by officials of the French brand. For example, Luca de Meo had already stated that the rebirth of more than one iconic model of the brand was expected.

Renault 5 Prototype
The Renault 5 Prototype anticipates the return of the Renault 5 in 100% electric mode, a crucial model for the “Renaulution” plan.

Gilles Vidal, Renault's head of design, when asked about plans for Renault's electric futures, hinted that some of these models could take on a retro-futuristic design.

What is already known?

Scheduled for arrival in 2025 (two years after the new Renault 5), little is known about the possible return of the Renault 4 to the French manufacturer's range.

Still, like this one, the only certainty is that it will be exclusively electric, using the same CMF-B EV platform as the Renault 5. Everything points to the Renault 4 being physically larger than the 5, presented as a crossover. Also in the plans appears to be a hypothetical commercial variant, just as happened in the original model.

And Zoe, where is he?

Faced with the return of the Renault 5 and the possible, but almost certain, return of the 4L, a question arises: what will happen to the Renault Zoe? At first glance, the appearance of two electric models for the B segment seems to call into question the continued existence of the best-selling electric model in Europe.

Renault Zoe

About this possibility, the head of design of the Renault Group, Laurens van den Acker, said: “Is this the end of Zoe? The answer is no, because the Zoe is the best-selling electric in Europe. Therefore, it would be foolish to stop the vehicles that are the most sold in their segment”.

Finally, as for a possible date for confirming the return of the Renault 4, we were not surprised if this happened at one of the many events celebrating the 60th anniversary of the original model.
