el-Born. This is CUPRA's first 100% electric model

Anonim

When everyone expected that CUPRA's first 100% electric model would be the production version of the Tavascan, the youngest brand in the Volkswagen Group decided to surprise and today unveiled the CUPRA el-Born.

"Cousin" of the Volkswagen ID.3 , the CUPRA el-Born owes its name to the homonymous prototype unveiled with the SEAT symbol at last year's Geneva Motor Show and makes use, of course, of the MEB platform.

Although the proportions are identical to those of ID.3, CUPRA el-Born, even so, has an identity of its own. This was achieved with the adoption of new wheels, larger side skirts, numerous details in copper color and, of course, its own front, completely redesigned and much more aggressive.

Inland, the proximity to ID.3 is even more evident. Still, we have a new steering wheel (with buttons for selecting the Driving Profile and CUPRA mode), a taller center console, sport seats and, as you'd expect, different materials. Finally, there is also the adoption of a Head-up Display with augmented reality.

The CUPRA el-Born showcases all the genes of the CUPRA brand and we've taken the original concept to the next level by creating a sporty, dynamic new design and re-engineering the technological content.

Dynamic on the rise

To ensure that the CUPRA el-Born lives up to the brand's dynamic scrolls, it has been equipped with the Adaptive Chassis Sport Control (DCC Sport) system that was developed exclusively within the MEB platform for the new CUPRA model.

For now, the power and torque of the CUPRA el-Born remain unknown, as well as the time it takes to reach 0 to 100 km/h and its maximum speed. The only data regarding his performance that was revealed, refers to the 2.9s that he is able to do from 0 to… 50 km/h.

Autonomy will not be a problem

If in the field of performance CUPRA opted for secrecy, the same did not happen with regard to the capacity of the batteries and the autonomy of the new CUPRA el-Born.

Therefore, the batteries we found in the new el-Born have 77 kWh of usable capacity (the total reaches 82 kWh) and offer the potential electric hot hatch a range of up to 500 km . Thanks to fast charging, the CUPRA el-Born is capable of restoring 260 km of autonomy in just 30 minutes.

Scheduled for arrival in 2021, the new CUPRA el-Born will be produced in Zwickau alongside its “cousin”, the Volkswagen ID.3.

Now it only remains to be seen if SEAT will have a model based on the el-Born prototype or if this will be another CUPRA exclusive model like the Formentor.
