The biggest SUV of the star brand arrived in Portugal. The new generation of Mercedes-Benz GLS and the "evil brother" Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC+ they grow in size and reinforce the arguments for comfort and luxury — if the S-Class were an SUV, it would be the GLS.
With seven seats (all with electronic adjustment), the GLS doesn't lack space. The 60 mm gain in wheelbase (3135 mm) is reflected in the space available in the second row of seats — plus 87 mm of legroom — and in the third row the dimensions have also increased.
The BMW X7's rival has also technologically upgraded, now also integrating the MBUX — the dashboard is dominated by two screens of 12.3″ each, one for the instrument panel, the other for the infotainment system.
Mercedes-Benz GLS in Portugal
The national range of the new Mercedes-Benz GLS consists of two diesel engines and one gasoline engine. On the diesel engine side we have a 2.9 l in-line six-cylinder engine with two power levels: 272 hp (and 600 Nm) for the GLS 350 d 4MATIC, and 330 hp (and 700 Nm) for the GLS 400 d 4MATIC .

The only gasoline engine is the GLS 580 4MATIC and it is a V8 twin turbo unit with 4.0 l capacity with 489 hp and 700 Nm. Common to these three engines is the presence of a nine-speed automatic transmission and traction to four wheels.
In relation to the Mercedes-AMG 63 4MATIC+, it also uses a twin turbo V8 with 4.0 l capacity, but the power shoots up for the 612 hp and 850 Nm , which translates to 4.2s from 0 to 100 km/h and 250 km/h of top speed — which can go up to 280 km/h with the optional AMG Drivers pack.
It should also be noted that both the GLS 580 and GLS 63 are mild-hybrid. In other words, both models come equipped with an engine-generator capable of offering (in case of acceleration) an EQ Boost mode. extra 250 Nm of torque and 22 hp of power. At the same time, the engine-generator is also capable of energy recovery.
