McLaren F1 with 387 km changed hands for over 17 million euros

Years pass but the McLaren F1 remains one of the most special cars ever. Created by Gordon Murray, it saw only 71 road specimens leave the production line, which makes it a kind of “car unicorn”.

Powered by an atmospheric V12 engine — of BMW origin — with 6.1 l of capacity that produced 627 hp of power (at 7400 rpm) and 650 Nm (at 5600 rpm), the F1 was for several years the fastest production car in the world. world and continues to “carry” the title of production car with the fastest atmospheric engine ever.

For all these reasons, whenever a McLaren F1 unit appears for sale, it is guaranteed that it will make “moving” many millions. And no other McLaren F1 (road) has moved as many millions as the exemplar that we are talking about here.

McLaren F1 AUCTION

This McLaren F1 was recently auctioned at a Gooding & Company event in Pebble Beach, California (USA), and grossed an impressive 20.465 million dollars, the equivalent of 17.36 million euros.

This value far surpassed the auctioneer's initial forecast — more than 15 million dollars… — and makes this McLaren F1 the most expensive road model ever, surpassing an old record set at 15.62 million dollars in 2017.

Above this model we only find a McLaren F1 converted to the LM specification which in 2019 sold for $19.8 million.

With chassis number 029, this example left the production line in 1995 and totals just 387 km on the odometer.

Painted in “Creighton Brown” and with the interior covered in leather, it is immaculate and comes with a kit of original suitcases that fit into the side compartments.

Sold to a Japanese collector, this McLaren F1 (who then “immigrated” to the US) also features a TAG Heuer watch, with the original tool kit and the Driving Ambition book that accompanied all F1's leaving the factory.

For all that, it is not difficult to see that someone has decided to buy this very special model for over 17 million euros. And the trend is for it to continue to appreciate in the coming years...
