Volkswagen Golf GTI BBS took inspiration from the 1980s Golf GTI

The Volkswagen Golf GTI has a legion of fans that span generations and although a lot has changed over the years, the character and essence of this model remains almost unchanged.

Now, and making precisely this marriage between the present and the past, Volkswagen has teamed up with the trainer Jamie Orr (specialist in the models of the Wolfsburg brand) and created the Golf GTI BBS.

Built on the latest Golf GTI, which we've already driven, this prototype features a look inspired by the second generation Golf GTI (Mk2) and achieves an exterior image that respects the “heavy” legacy this model carries.

Jamie Orr explains that he was very impressed with the standard Golf GTI and that's why he decided not to mess with the interior, body and engine. “We wanted to keep the soul of the Mk8, so we followed the path of more traditional changes,” said Jamie Orr.

Thus, the main changes come down to the 19” BBS gold wheels and the lowered suspension with a set of “coilovers” by H&R, which also allowed for a slight change in the camber on the front axle.

Also noteworthy is the new Borla exhaust system, the new yellow LED daytime running lights and the various red and black bodywork graphics, almost always accompanied by the BBS logo.

The engine, as mentioned above, was not “tweaked”, so the 2.0 TSI four-cylinder turbo block continues to produce 245 hp of power (between 5000 and 6200 rpm) and 370 Nm of maximum torque (between 1600 and at 4300 rpm).

Thanks to these numbers, and using a six-speed manual gearbox, this Golf GTI BBS is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4s and reaching a maximum speed of 250 km/h.
