Audi is celebrating the 25th anniversary of TDI engines. It all started in 1989, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Alongside the Quattro technology, the TDI engines are one of the great technological and commercial flags of Audi. For every two cars that Audi sells, one is equipped with TDI engines.

Introduced in 1989, during the Frankfurt Motor Show, the five-cylinder 2.5 TDI engine with 120hp and 265Nm was responsible for the beginning of a new era for the ring brand, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. With a top speed of almost 200km/h and an average consumption of 5.7 L/100km, this engine was revolutionary for its time, due to its efficiency and performance.

In this journey of two and a half decades, one of the highlights will undoubtedly have been the victory of the German brand in the 24th of LeMans with the Audi R10 TDI.
