GROSS Brabus Rocket 900 limits torque to 1050 Nm (!) so as not to destroy the transmission

Anonim

Just looking at the images of this enlarged, muscular and fearsome Brabus Rocket 900 , lets guess that the thing was not only half done — after all it is a Brabus...

Put the Brabus Rocket 900 next to the Poseidon GT 63 RS 830+ that we showed a week ago and, although the latter is still (a little) more powerful, it ends up looking like a “choir boy” or, to be more friendly, a "Wolf in lamb skin".

The entire apparatus is justified by the (much) increased capabilities in relation to the model on which it is based, the “lord-who-already-imposes-respect” Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ (four doors) — a portentous creation of the masters from Affalterbach that we have already had the opportunity to experience:

The Rocket 900 adds 7.8 cm to the width of the standard model — reached on the rear axle — visible in the flares on the fenders, and adds a generous rear wing, as well as an expressive rear diffuser (both in carbon fiber) , which justifies the more threatening appearance.

To complete the set, the Monoblock Z Platinum Edition wheels, from Brabus, with the respectable measures of 21″x10.5″ at the front and 22″x12″ at the rear, surrounded by tires of, respectively, 295/30 and 335/25 !

But if the appearance is already impressive, what about the engine?

This is where the Brabus Rocket 900 truly stands out from other preparations. The M 177 used by the GT 63 S sees its capacity rise from 4.0 l to 4.5 l, courtesy of a new crankshaft “sculpted” from a single metal block, which allowed the cylinders' stroke to be increased from 92 mm to 100 mm. It didn't stop there… With the increase in stroke came new connecting rods and forged pistons that also saw the diameter being increased from 83 mm to 84 mm.

The induction system is now made up of two new turbochargers, larger in size, and with a high pressure of 1.4 bar. Of course, there was no lack of a new carbon fiber intake with ram-air effect, as well as a new stainless steel exhaust system, with electronically adjusted valves. Option that ensures that the enhanced V8 has multiple voices: from a discreet purr to a rumbling growl that we so enjoy in V8.

Let's go to numbers. If the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S doesn't have to be embarrassed by the 639 hp and 900 Nm it has, its Brabus Rocket 900 alter-ego will simply slaughter it: 900 hp at 6200 rpm and 1250 Nm of torque from a reasonable 2900 rpm . However, to ensure that the transmission is not destroyed by this absurd amount of force, torque has been limited to a “civilized” 1050 Nm…

With “fat” numbers like this, it's no wonder that it reaches 100 km/h in just 2.8s, 200 km/h in just 9.7s and 300 km/h in “mere” 23.9s, values that we are more used to seeing in gem supersports. But the Rocket 900 continues to accelerate beyond 300 km/h, reaching an electronic barrier at 330 km/h — all to ensure that the tires don't self-destruct either, as always 2120 kg at the speed of a… rocket.

There will only be 10

The production of the Brabus Rocket 900 will be limited to just 10 units and, as expected, the price is as exorbitant as the figures that define its specifications, amounting to 427 thousand euros… without taxes.
