GT3 Cup. The single-brand trophy that promises to liven up national speed

GT3 Cup. This is the name of the new single-brand trophy that will be, this season, one of the main reasons for sprint racing in Portugal.

Promoted by P21Motorsport, this single-brand trophy promises to put on track, under competitive conditions for drivers and teams, the well-known Porsche 911 (gen.997) GT3: 450 hp, 6-speed sequential gearbox.

In total, 20 Porsche 997 GT3 units and a vast stock of parts are available — already on their way to Portugal, where they are scheduled to arrive this week. The first test of the GT3 Cup was scheduled for next April, at Circuito Vasco Sameiro, in Braga.

The delivery of the cars to the drivers includes a day of tests (Estoril or Portimão), with a schedule yet to be defined.

The calendar has five races, one of which on the Spanish circuit of Jarama, in a “tour” that includes all national tracks. The organization is in charge of P21Motorsport, led by José Monroy, in a project that arises as a result of the partnership established with the promoter of the Porsche GT3 Cup in Argentina.

Competitive cars. Controlled costs

P21Motorsport offers participants in the GT3 Cup two different modes, car rental (MDriving Racing Academy takes care of maintenance and logistics) or sale, with the owner being responsible for the maintenance and transport to the races.

Moreover, each pilot will have its own category (GD, AM and PRO), with an associated classification and its own score. The format of this single-brand trophy in each of the five rounds includes two free practice sessions (20 minutes each), two qualifications (15 minutes) and two 25-minute races.

José Monroy, responsible for P21Motorsport, does not hide his enthusiasm for the GT3 Cup. And he reveals how it all started:

The idea of advancing this trophy came at the end of last year, during a meeting with the promoter of the Argentine Porsche GT3 Cup. As for me, it comes at a good time, as there are currently not many attractive options in terms of speed competitions in Portugal and this GT3 Cup means an excellent opportunity to compete at the wheel of a Porsche 997 with very affordable and controlled costs, given the car what is.

GT3 Cup. In Portugal and beyond

The GT3 Cup was designed in the first place for national pilots, but it does not end in Portuguese territory. “We are also working on the internationalization of the trophy and I am confident that we will count on the participation of riders from other countries”, reveals José Monroy, responsible for P21Motorsport.
