Hyundai Ioniq is the fastest hybrid ever

This modified Hyundai Ioniq was able to reach a speed of 254 km/h, which constitutes a new world record for a “ hybrid based on a production model”.

When it presented the new Hyundai Ioniq, the South Korean brand promised us an efficient, light and more dynamic driving model compared to other hybrid vehicles, but it seems, the Ioniq could also be a car capable of breaking records.

To prove this, Hyundai shed all unnecessary components (who needs air conditioning to break a speed record?) and included a Bisimoto safety cage, Sparco racing seat and a braking parachute . Aerodynamics was not forgotten either, namely in the front grille, which is less resistant to air intake.

With regard to mechanical modifications, the brand's engineers increased the power of the 1.6 GDI combustion engine through a nitrous oxide injection system, in addition to many other changes in the intake, exhaust and transmission systems, as well as a recalibration of the software.

Result: this Hyundai Ioniq was able to reach a speed of 254 km/h in the “salt” of Bonneville Speedway, Utah (USA), place of worship for speed lovers. This speed record was homologated by the FIA and concerns the category of hybrids based on production models and weighing between 1000 and 1500 kg. Watch the video below:
